12 Days of Designers

For the pass few holiday seasons, Bloomingdale’s has partnered up with The Child Mind Institute to create ornaments that give back.  One hundred percent of the proceeds from each ornament are donated to the Child Mind Institute. In 2011, the limited edition ornaments were: Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Donna Karan, Rebecca Minkoff, Rebecca Taylor, Heidi Klum, Al Roker and Kim Kardashian.

This a great gift to give someone especially since you’re giving back at the same time! So why not have something like Twelve Days of Designers? Each day one designer will be revealed with two other home products. Above are the twelve Designers that I chose and designed their ornaments.

I did create the other two home products for each designer, but I can't give away all my creative ideas!

Tis the Season of Gifting- Holiday 2012

When I was an intern at the Bloomingdale's Fashion Office in New York City we were given a project from the VP of Men's Fashion Director, Kevin. This was the first time Kevin had called a meeting with all of the Fashion Office Interns to discuss an upcoming project. Our assignment was to come up with holiday gift ideas and present it in a month. Since there were four interns, including myself, the categories were: Accessories, Men’s, Women’s and Home. We ended up picking the category from a bowl. I was given Home Products.

I started to research trend forecasting websites and magazines. Below are just three out of the ten I ended up presenting to the VP and all of the Fashion Directors.   To “WOW” everyone, I created a 3D board.

All the gifts were under $100.00!

Each gift was able to come off of the board and was passed around the room. They loved my board so much that they kept it!

Nine ways to say Mustache

I purchased the above Wildfox mustache t-shirt at Bloomingdale's back in May and usually wear it at the beach. A few weeks ago, one of my guy friends made a comment about how he wants a mustache shirt. I started my search around different stores to find the perfect mustache male shirt. I ended up finding one at Urban Outfitters but I didn't think he would like it. I then realized - why not make a one of a kind, personal touch mustache t-shirt? The creative wheels started to roll. I thought about what might interest him and how he always wants to learn something new. He also mentioned in passing that he was learning Greek in his free time. The light bulb went off! I started to research different languages and the word "mustache".

The end result was nine different languages and one happy friend!

Photographs turned into an Illustration Creation

One day when I was at my family’s beach house, I decided to challenge myself and try something I haven’t tried before using Illustrator CS5. Since I have never recreated a photograph into a graphic image I thought it was best to start with a picture of myself. The graphic of me took about seven hours. After I finished it, I looked at it….thought, “hey, this actually looks pretty cool”. I showed my family and started to work on a second graphic image of my dog. In the past, we had gotten two hand drawings of my dog by artists at local events. At the end, they didn’t look like him so I knew that this would mean a lot to my family and me. I currently have this graphic photo of my dog on my background on my iPhone. The last drawing was done for my grandparent’s 64th Wedding anniversary. This black and white photo was a huge challenge but I ended up finishing it within two days and putting it in a frame to give to my grandparents. They
were thrilled and amazed!

This challenge was a success and I’m very happy with how these turned out, especially since I originally learned how to use Illustrator for creating flat sketches.
